MAXAM Foundation - House of the Explosive - Introduction

Since the foundation of the Sociedad Anónima Española de la Pólvora Dinamita by Alfred Nobel in 1872, MAXAM has played a pioneering role in the explosives industry.

More than 140 years of experience and evolution in which MAXAM has contributed to industrial and economic development and thus to our society’s progress.

The evolution undergone by the explosives industry and its technological processes, together with their applications in the field of mining, can be viewed in the House of Explosives.

This area of the MUMI showcases the beginnings of the explosives industry and its progression within the chemical industry. The permanent exhibition displays in a dynamic and interactive manner the early developments of explosive products (black powder, hunting cartridges, detonators, etc.). Visitors can learn about its evolution in parallel to that of our society’s achievements (industrial development, communication networks, means of transport) and the possibilities that underlie the continuous improvement of our welfare model.

The collaboration between the MAXAM Foundation and the MUMI is an ongoing process that continues today with the study, cataloguing and display of the pieces that the MAXAM network of companies sends to Asturias from countries such as Bolivia, USA, Portugal, Greece, Bulgaria and many more.
